Privacy Policy

This is a convenience translation. The German version at gaias.social/datenschutz is the legally binding one.

2. Principles

This privacy policy applies to the website gaias.social. We keep data processing as sparse as possible:

  • no cookies,
  • no tracking and no analytics services,
  • no content from third-party servers (fonts and styles are served locally),
  • no disclosure of data to third parties, no transfer to third countries,
  • no automated decision-making and no profiling.

3. Hosting and server log files

This website runs on a server operated by SoHaNet Technology GmbH and rented from netcup GmbH (Karlsruhe); the server location is within the European Union.

When you visit the website, the web server automatically processes the connection data sent by your browser: IP address, date and time of access, requested resource, HTTP status code, amount of data transferred, referrer URL and user agent (browser/operating system). This data is stored in server log files.

Purpose and legal basis: ensuring operation, error analysis and defence against attacks (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR — legitimate interest in secure and stable operation).

Retention: log files are rotated daily and automatically deleted after 15 days at the latest.

4. Contact by e-mail

If you contact us by e-mail (for example at support@gaias.social), we process your e-mail address and the content of your message in order to handle your enquiry. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR (pre-contractual or contractual measures) or Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (legitimate interest in answering enquiries). Correspondence is deleted as soon as it is no longer required and no statutory retention obligations apply. Our mailbox is operated by a provider within the European Union.

5. Requesting a GAIAs mailbox address

Signed-in users can request an e-mail address under gaias.social at gaias.social/webmail/registrierung/. A GAIAs account is required — without signing in, the service does not accept a request.

We store: your GAIAs account identifier, the requested address, the time of receipt, your IP address, and a message if you choose to write one. Your name and reply address are never stored with the request; they come from your account and are used only to notify you.

Purpose and legal basis: handling and traceability of your request (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR — steps taken at your request prior to entering into a contract). The IP address additionally serves to prevent abusive bulk requests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Retention:

  • Rejected requests are deleted in full 30 days after the decision.
  • For accepted requests, the message and the IP address are deleted 30 days after the decision. The assigned address, your account identifier and the decision itself remain.
  • Requests that were never decided are deleted in full 90 days after receipt.
  • The decision link in our internal notification is valid for 14 days.

6. Apps and further services

GAIAs Teleprompter (app): in its current state the app processes no personal data. There is no user account and no transfer to our servers; scripts and settings are stored exclusively on your device.

GAIAs Temp Checker (app): the questionnaire is evaluated entirely on your device. Your individual answers and the optional birth details never leave the device; the birth details are not stored either and are discarded when the app is closed. After each completed evaluation the app sends an anonymous report to our server: the four computed temperament values, the resulting predominant temperament, the chosen length of the questionnaire, the operating system, the app version and — if you entered birth details — the sun sign and ascendant. Not transmitted are your individual answers, date, time and place of birth, any user or device identifier, and any timestamp; the server records only the calendar day. The report therefore contains nothing by which an entry could be attributed to a person. We keep no access log for this path, so no IP addresses are stored either. The purpose is a statistical count of how often which temperaments occur; the legal basis is our legitimate interest in improving the service (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). You can switch the transmission off at any time in the app settings; the questionnaire works unchanged without it. Individual reports cannot be deleted afterwards because, lacking an identifier, they cannot be attributed.

GAIAs Academy (platform and messenger): the privacy notices published at gaias.academy apply to use of the platform.

7. Your rights

You have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • access (Art. 15 GDPR),
  • rectification (Art. 16 GDPR),
  • erasure (Art. 17 GDPR),
  • restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR),
  • data portability (Art. 20 GDPR),
  • objection to processing based on Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (Art. 21 GDPR).

An informal e-mail to support@gaias.social is sufficient to exercise these rights.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR). The authority responsible for us is the Bavarian Data Protection Authority (BayLDA), Promenade 18, 91522 Ansbach, Germany.

8. Changes

We adapt this privacy policy when the website or the legal situation changes. The version published here applies.
